Joseph Gordon, the younger of two brothers in The Blue City Band, contributes to the group’s unique sound with his lead vocals and playing styles on bass and harmonica. Joseph’s introduction to music began on the drums as soon as he could reach the pedal, about age two. He switched to the bass at age three and has continued throughout his musical life to challenge himself with new styles and the art of improvisation.
"I realize music is a gift not just a hobby, but one that can change the world," Joseph said. Many of Blue City’s songs have been co-written by Joseph, and his brother John. Joseph says his main goal in song writing is "to create well thought out lyrics and good melodies." "My drive for the music we write and perform is not for money or fame, but to bring back the class and depth of music that in many cases has been lost," Joseph said. "I want to capture that and present it to this generation and generations to come." "The depth of life as a Christian has always been one of the most interesting parts of my belief," Joseph said. "I want my music to positively affect the Christian lives of listeners."

John Gordon is the eldest of two brothers in The Blue City Band. Raised in a musical family, John and his brother Joseph are both multi-talented musicians. John first began playing drums at age four then, learned the guitar, organ, mandolin and any other instruments he could get his hands on.
"We always had instruments in our house growing up, but the first one that was all mine was a present when I was four," John remembers. "It was a little blue guitar, more of a toy, but I remember rock n out on that thing." He plays rhythm and lead guitar, and sings background and the occasional lead vocals with the band. Blues is a favorite music style with John, but he loves to challenge himself with other styles from rock to rap. John says that playing from his heart is the key to his art. "Having the ability to play music from knowledge is an awesome skill, but I think being able to play from your soul is lifes greatest accomplishment," John said. John often appears shy, but considers himself as adventurous and never satisfied with just the norm. John said being a member of The Blue City Band means that the possibilities for Christian witness are endless.
The Blue City Band drummer John L. Knox is the most outgoing member of the group, but when laying the patterns for their music, he is all business. Band members consider him rock steady with an ability to create moods with his drumming. Drumming, whether on a trap set, djembe, or even with broken sticks, has been a way of life for John after learning drumming as a teenager and following groups to learn their styles and beats.
"When I was a kid, I remember seeing Elvis in his last concert on television," John said. "I thought to myself, I wish Elvis would move out of the way so I could see the drummer better." John also plays in his church praise team and admits he is still learning and seeking his way in the music world. He said a key to life as John Knox is "being able to laugh at myself." He said being a member of The Blue City Band has resulted in friendship and commitment for him, and a way to truly express his ideas and improve as a drummer.
Brent Womac, mild mannered and almost shy outside of his music world, comes alive when playing lead guitar for The Blue City Band. He quickly becomes one with his instrument, and his audience. A talented blues and jazz guitarist, Brent has the ability to create on the fly, play in any key, and improvise. "Many people have told me I am a musicians musician," Brent said. "I really hope that is true, I know I still have much to learn." Constantly striving, he states "I have never been able to let up with my music, I'm always driving myself further and further. "
Brent loves learning new styles, but his roots stem from the greats such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to Freddie King and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Additionally, Brent sings both lead and back-up vocals with The Blue City Band as well as contributing to writing and arranging their music. He believes "If we can dream it, we can play it." Music is Brent's passion but there's more to him then just the guitar. "I love my family and friends. I love God and all His wonderful blessings," said Brent. "I dont deserve His goodness, but I thank Him everyday that I have the ability to go into this world and play a small part with what I have been given."
